This is my origonal recipe for shortcakes.
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbs sugar
1 Tbs baking powder
1/2 cup cold butter
1 cup (scant) half and half (or milk)
Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in butter. Add milk and stir until just mixed. Overstirring will make them tough. Either cut out into biscuits, or bake it as one piece and break it up later.
Bake @410 degrees in an ungreased pan, 15-20 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Serve with fresh sugared strawberries (or peaches).
