Butterscotch Crackles

These are super good, and easy. Just watch them carefully. The instant the tops crackle, take them out of the oven.


1  cup  sugar
1  cup  brown sugar
1  cup  butter
1  egg, unbeaten
2  tsp  vanilla
2-1/2  cups  flour
2  tsp  cream of tartar
2  tsp  baking soda
1/4  tsp  salt
Additional sugar for rolling

Cream together sugars and butter. Add egg and vanilla. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Add to mix. Roll into small balls, and then roll in sugar. Do not flatten. 


Bake on ungreased cookie sheets (12 to a pan) at 350° until golden brown, flat, and cracked on top, 8 - 9 minutes. In my oven it takes 8 minutes and 15 seconds.
